It is said that every child is a born naturalist. His eyes are, by nature, open to the glories of the stars, the beauty of the flowers and the mystery of life. Toddlers enjoy being outdoors and love digging in the soil, creating things and watching plants and vegetables grow. They can learn new skills, play and develop self-confidence by spending time in the garden tending plants and may be growing their own. To foster the same, children have been exploring the ongoing theme 'Things that grow' through both planned and spontaneous experiences.
It was a wonder to see them demonstrate cooperation and responsibility by planting seeds on their own, watering them and placing them under sunlight. Pretending to grow vegetables and flowers on the farm and selling them to their peers aided their knowledge about the world and encouraged their involvement with things that grow in nature. It is never too early to start practising healthy habits and toddlers enjoyed washing vegetables before fixing their salad during their breakfast. Along with this, they are also exploring different flowers too.
They are learning about their names, colours, smell every day and creating various crafts like bluebells and daffodils. Making a 'flower mandala', weaving leaves and stringing flowers to make necklaces are a few novel experiences for them and they look forward to these engagements as they enter their class.
